High Schools: Belchertown boys tennis books 6th straight title-match trip

The second-seeded Belchertown boys tennis team will make their sixth consecutive appearance in the Western Mass. Division 3 final.

The Orioles swept No. 3 Sabis, 5-0, in the quarterfinal round on Monday.

They’ll face top-seeded Lee in the Berkshires on Wednesday.

Belchertown’s lineup only lost a combined two games at home.

Ben Schrenzel beat Makenzie Mongeon 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Tom Vinagre defeated Jorden Borders 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, and Trevor Weiss won 6-0, 6-0 over Jeromie Reyes at No. 3.

At No. 1 doubles, Belchertown’s Colby Masse and Carson Boshcer bested Emery Aponte and Tajour Phillips 6-0, 6-0. Joe Bianco and Kiernan Corish won 6-0, 6-0 over Peter Nguyen and Trevon Jnoroge at No. 2 doubles.


Easthampton 9, Southwick 1 — Chelsea Indyk struck out 11, as the No. 5 Easthampton softball team upended No. 4 Southwick 9-1 on the road in Monday’s Western Massachusetts Division 2 quarterfinals.

The Eagles will face top-seeded Hampshire Regional in Wednesday’s semifinals.

Emma Downer laced a two-run triple in the sixth.

Easthampton scored two runs in the top of the third on a throwing error.

Lauren Morse put the Eagles on the board with an RBI double in the second.

Girls lacrosse

Agawam 21, Northampton 8 — Riley Shea recorded 11 saves in net, as the No. 10 Blue Devils saw their season come to an end with a 21-8 loss to No. 2 Agawam in the Central/West Div. 1 quarterfinal round Monday in Agawam.

Izzy Epstein paced the Northampton offense with two goals, while Sofia Ciaglo, Shea Crowther, Julienne Lussier, Ellie Mahoney, Chloe Denhart and Jeana Kasperzyk all added tallies.

Agawam’s Emily DeGeorge netted 12 goals to lift the hosts into the semifinal round.

Granby 15, Belchertown 6 – Ella Laliberte put away six goals with an assist, as the seventh-seeded Rams upended the No. 2 Orioles in the Central/West Division 2 quarterfinals.

Granby will travel to No. 6 Mount Greylock in the semifinals at a time and date to be determined. It’s the Rams’ first trip to the final four.

Gabby Walz added five goals for the Rams. Ari Klekotka scored twice with an assist, while Emily Vallee had two assists and a goal. Kayla Klekotka found the net once.

Liberty Conlin stopped 22 shots.

Karlie Monteiro and Allison Bessette each scored twice for Belchertown. The Orioles’ Paige Magner and Erin Lucas had a goal each.

Mabelle Bessette saved 25 shorts.

Boys volleyball

Ludlow 3, Holyoke 0 – Lewis Torres had 20 digs, seven kills and two blocks in a 25-16, 25-19, 25-17 home loss for the No. 5 Purple Knights. The No. 13 Lions will visit No. 8 West Springfield in Wednesday’s semifinals

Jairam Rodriguez added 17 digs, three assists and five kills.

Julian Gutierrez and Wilie Lopez distributed eight assists each.

Nathan Bowie made seven blocks with two kills.
