Ava Shea continued her dominant season at No. 1 singles, helping the Belchertown girls tennis team to a 4-1 victory over South Hadley during independent action on Thursday at Mount Holyoke College.

Shea notched a 6-0, 6-0 win over South Hadley’s Estella Estrada in the top singles slot as the Orioles improved to 5-2 overall.

Belchertown swept the singles matches, with Amanda Murray snagging a 7-5, 6-0 win over Yanna Stefoglo at No. 2 and Zoe Bate rallying for a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Maddie Soderbaum at No. 3.

Abby Ngure and Cara Dean scored the lone point for South Hadley (3-2), as they captured a 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 win at No. 2 doubles over Belchertown’s Ellie Gelinas and Kasey Gibbons.

At first doubles, Belchertown’s Emalee Chaisson and Mia Corish got past South Hadley’s Madison Bruso and Grace O’Shea, 6-3, 6-0.

Amherst 4, Amherst 1 – Sofia DaSilva-Askew didn’t drop a game in her first singles match and Aliya Osman won 6-2, 6-2 in third singles.

In first doubles, Emma Learned-Miller and Mahima Ganesan won 6-3, 6-2 and in second doubles, Janaki Ewoton and Elena Ruiz won 7-5, 6-2.

Boys tennis

PVCICS 5, Turners Falls 0 – The Dragons had little issue dispatching of Turners in a Tri-County League sweep on Thursday at Hampshire College.

Sixth grader Lee Ferguson paced the singles winners with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 1. Teddy Scott (6-1, 6-0) and James Scott (6-0, 6-0) were other singles winners for PVCICS.

Devan Ye and Gabe Loinaz scored a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while the second pairing of Simon Speek and Ethan Wang cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Frontier 4, Chicopee Comp 1 – Robert Fuqua cruised to a win in his second singles match, 6-0, 6-2 and Caiden Manning won 6-4, 6-3 in his third singles match. Oliver Brown and Brayden Reipold won their first doubles match 6-1, 6-0 and Donovan Vichi and Noah Nichols won the second doubles match 6-3, 6-3. In the first singles match, Jacob Han lost a marathon 3-6, 6-1, 7-6.

Baseball

Belchertown 18, Agawam 8 (6) – Despite falling behind 5-0 after half an inning, the Orioles responded with a six-spot in the bottom of the first frame and eventually put the game away with six more runs in the third en route to Thursday’s victory in Belchertown.

Canyon Charron (two RBIs), Kaden Houle (four RBIs) and Evan Ferguson (four RBIs) all had two hits for Belchertown, while Derek Gould singled, walked three times and scored four runs. The hosts took advantage of seven Agawam errors.

Boys lacrosse

Northampton 15, Hoosac 5 – Henry Fallon made 12 saves for the Blue Devils, which received four goals and three assists from Jackson Oravec.

Keller Mahoney (3G, 1A) and Jack Carpenter (2G, 1A) also had multi-point nights for ’Hamp.

Granby 16, St. Mary’s 7 – Connor McDonald scored five times and Kamdyn Lopez added four more for the Rams. Riley Goodhind recorded a hat-trick and a pair of assists. Stuart Slozech and Jordan Yieu-Reed added two goals each.

Liam Ramos netted five goals to power the Saints, which co-op with Hampshire Regional.

Girls lacrosse

Amherst 18, Pope Francis 2 – The Hurricanes stormed out to an 11-1 halftime lead and didn’t look back en route to another victory that kept them perfect at 6-0.

Abi Como (5G, 1), Talia Sadiq (4G, 1A), Francesca Sloan (4G, 2A) and Kiko Bhowmik (4G, 2A) were the offensive stars for Amherst on Thursday. Cedar Conrad made three saves in net.

Mount Greylock 15, Belchertown 7 – Paige Magner scored four goals and Kenzie LePage added another. Madysen LePage tallied three assists.

Hampshire 12, Monson 4 – Anna Puttick scored six goals for the second game in a row to lead the Raiders to another win.

Softball

Hopkins 13, Northampton 0 (5) – Cassie Dion struck out nine and allowed just two hits in a five-inning shutout to pace the Golden Hawks in a Franklin County League East game on Thursday in Northampton.

Dion also had three hits and two RBIs at the plate as Hopkins scored five runs in the top of the first to set the tone. Lily Ellia roped two hits and drove in a run for the Hawks, while Alayna Bailey tripled and drove in a pair.

Northampton’s Ella Daillie and Haly Doucette-Kaplan had the hits for the hosts.

Belchertown 21, Commerce 5 – Julie Cozine led an offensive explosion for the Orioles. She went 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs. Eight other Belchertown players recorded hits and Lila Roy struck out seven batters. 

Late Wednesday results

Boys volleyball

Granby 3, SICS 0 – The Rams received 19 kills, 16 digs and nine assists from Michael Swanigan en route to a 25-23, 25-19, 25-19 sweep.

Braeden Gallagher added eight kills, nine digs and six assists for Granby, and Jake Gagnon dished out 18 assists to go with seven kills and 10 digs.

Baseball

St. Mary’s 13, Gateway 5 – The Gators led 5-3 entering the bottom of the fifth but the host Saints scored five times in both the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.

Dalton Savoy was 3-for-3 for Gateway, while teammate Levi Savoy also had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs. Weston Anderson chipped in a pair of singles.

Youth sports

Northampton Intermediate baseball

The Northampton Blue Devils 13U baseball team captured an 11-1 win over the Belchertown Intermediates on Wednesday in Belchertown.

Maceo Nteta earned the win for the Blue Devils, striking out six in 2 2/3 innings with no hits or runs allowed. Iggy Piotrowski led the offense with two hits while Layne Nagle, Miller Cobrich, Dylan Lawrence-Riddell, and Nteta each stole multiple bases.

Jacoby Homer and Ryan Lussier each had a hit for Belchertown.
