The last harvest

Friday, November 02, 2018

Yesterday as I was driving around looking for art, I passed a farm called The Next Barn Over in Hadley. It was a familiar scene of them harvesting in the fields, but it made me pause and somehow carried more weight as I realized the season is coming to an end. When I asked, they confirmed that it was indeed the last CSA pickup of the season.

I watched as they picked parsley and washed greens and then looked down and saw the light fall on the Purple Napa Cabbage. It was beautiful: subtle fresh colors in a low fall light, a tribute to bounty as winter comes.
