HADLEY — Hampshire County’s first Five Guys Burgers and Fries is expected to open around Thanksgiving in a plaza at the Mountain Farms Mall.

At the Planning Board meeting Tuesday, a halo-lit sign for the restaurant at 355 Russell St., located next to an L.L. Bean outdoor apparel store opening Oct. 18 and a 110 Grill restaurant also opening in October, was approved.

Harry Auerbach, an account executive with Agnoli Sign Co. of Springfield, said he will fashion the sign, limited to 40 square feet, for the restaurant.

Five Guys will have two additional lit signs in the windows, one reading “open” and the other “milkshakes.” Both signs are small enough to meet town bylaws and will be turned off when the store is closed.

Concrete is being poured this week by the general contractor, with estimates that construction will last six to eight weeks.

In addition to the completion of the plaza facing Route 9, a building along South Maple Street that formerly housed Manny’s TV & Appliances, before it moved to the Hampton Inn Village Shops, is being renovated in anticipation of additional retailers coming to the mall.

Meanwhile, the space at the rear of Mountain Farms that previously housed Planet Fitness, which moved to Hampshire Mall in 2017, is being used on a temporary basis by Spirit Halloween.
