HATFIELD — In a weekly update posted to the town website on Monday, the Board of Health announced the town’s first confirmed case of COVID-19.

In the letter to the community from Chairwoman Kerry Flaherty, the board observes that “all CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and Department of Public Health guidelines are being followed in regard to this case.”

The letter reiterates that the health board and Select Board are protecting residents and employees from the spread of the new coronavirus by keeping all municipal buildings closed to the public, and having all municipal business conducted by telephone or email.

In addition, the Hatfield public schools remain closed through May 4, and all town basketball courts and playgrounds are shut until further notice.
