Weekend Planner — Art: Valerie Gilman and Elaina Kennedy open show at Gallery A3

Published: 1/4/2017 3:19:48 PM

Opening with a reception Thursday, 5-8 p.m., in conjunction with Amherst’s monthly Arts Night Plus, the January exhibit at Gallery A3 is a two-person show featuring the gallery’s newest members, Valerie Gilman and Elaina Kennedy.

Gilman is a sculptor who works in a variety of media — clay, bronze and steel — in an attempt to elicit “that which is at once familiar and unknown.”

Kennedy creates abstract paintings and monoprints: “It’s the uncontrollable (or un-knowable) experiences and situations that I find most intriguing and that I aim to explore with a combination of colors, lines and shapes.”

A forum with the artists is set for Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. Gallery A3 is at 28 Amity St. in Amherst. Hours are Thursdays-Sundays, 1-7 p.m.
