Colleges: UMass soccer sweeps

The UMass men’s soccer team found the net early and late to remain unbeaten, taking down Hofstra 2-0 at McGuirk Alumni Stadium in Amherst on Wednesday.

Logan Brown scored 85 seconds into the match unassisted. Then James McPherson doubled the lead from Yosuke Hanya in the 83rd minute.

Marvyn Dorchin kept his second consecutive clean sheet with six saves.

Women’s soccer

UMass 2, Stony Brook 0 – Fatou Barry scored a goal and added an assist, as the Minutewomen won at home.

Barry found the net in the 53rd minute from Hannah Peric and Jenny Hipp.

Ella Curry opened the scoring in the 14th minute. Alyssa Chase stopped three shots.


Northeastern 11, UMass 2 – Mike Gervasi homered in the eighth inning, but the Minutemen fell in their opener.

The Huskies scored 11 unanswered runs in the first six innings.

Kevin Skagerlind drove in Aidan Wilde with a groundout in the ninth for UMass (0-1). Kevin Dow started and struck out five.
