AMHERST – UMass has added a home-and-home series with New Mexico to its football schedule beginning in the 2020 season.
The games were first reported by the Albuquerque Journal and then confirmed by a source within the UMass athletics department. The Minutemen would travel to the Lobos on Oct. 3, 2020 with New Mexico returning to Amherst on Sept. 23, 2023. The previously scheduled trip to Akron on Oct. 3 will now be played on Oct. 17, replacing a road game at Mississippi State. Mississippi State now list a home game against UMass for Oct. 19, 2024 on its website.
As it currently stands, Walt Bell will open his second year in charge of the Minutemen at UConn on Sept. 3 before hosting Troy on Sept. 12 in the home opener. The game against the Trojans is not listed on the UMass athletics website, but was confirmed to still be scheduled after it was moved from the 2018 season previously. The Minutemen traveled to Troy in 2016, losing 52-31 to UMass alum Neal Brown and the Trojans.
UMass also travels to App State, Auburn and Liberty in 2020 while hosting Temple, New Mexico State, FIU, Army in 2020.
