Thursday’s high school softball: Gateway Regional cruises past Renaissance for first win

Audrey Gamble and Angela Wright each had two hits for the Gateway Regional softball team in a 25-3 win over host Renaissance on Thursday.

The Gators (1-5) walked 24 times in the five-inning game.

Gateway had 18 players see action.

Gamble earned the win. Nicole Hannigan, the junior varsity pitcher, was called up and pitched a scoreless fifth.

Northampton 13, Chicopee 4 — Amanda Mieczkowski went 3-for 4 (double and two singles) and drove in three runs.

Emilia Pelis also went 3-for-4 (double and two singles) and drove in three runs.

Anna Kerwood gave up no walks and had nine strikeouts.

Smith Voke 21, Westfield Tech 7 — The Vikings (4-3) plated 14 runs in the first inning in a road win.

Allison Kowalczyk went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and missed the cycle by a homer.

Samantha Von Haugg had three hits and three RBIs while Maddisin Atkinson had two hits with two RBIs.

Stephanie Start pitched four innings with only one earned run.

Ware 11, Smith Academy 5 — A five-run first inning for the Indians sunk the Falcons in a road loss.

Karlie Guimond went 1-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI for Smith Academy (1-5, 1-3 Bi-County West).

Maggie Hession added a run scored and two RBI for the Falcons.

Turners Falls 12, Hopkins Academy 0 (5) — Taylor Robbins had a the Golden Hawks’ lone hit in the five-inning game, as they fell behind 9-0 after the first inning.

Hopkins fell to 2-5 (0-4 Franklin).

Mohawk 12, Frontier Regional 10 — After each team scored once in the eighth, the Warriors scored twice in the ninth to win in extra innings.

Sarah Meunier had three hits, including a solo home run to left in the fourth inning, three RBIs and three runs scored for Frontier (1-4, 1-2 Franklin County League).
