June Cooper’s bright blue hair ribbon caught our eye as she walked across busy Pleasant street in Amherst on a bright October afternoon.

Occupation: “Retired from many things — or I try to be!”

Fashion education: “My mother, back in the ’40s, was a well-known milliner in Canada. She used to give me all sorts of ribbons to play with, and so I wear a bow daily — and I’m pushing 85.”

Her necklace: “A Hawaiian fishhook, one of the major sacred Hawaiian artifacts, if you will.”

Her cane: “This is my mermaid. She’s my guardian ange;, she’s traveled the world with me.”

Her color-coordinated style: “Oh, you should have seen me a couple days ago, I was an orange pumpkin, and everybody stopped me. I had an orange-and-black vest, hair bow, socks, and … even the undies!”
