Offers historical context of separating children, parents

The practice of separating children from parents at the United States border takes my breath away. Using this practice as a “disincentive” (where did economists come up with that word?) stuns me.

Am I alone in remembering that this is exactly what Nazis did to Jewish families as they entered the gates of the concentration camps? Am I alone in observing that this is exactly what Joseph Stalin did to millions of families in the Soviet Union?

Am I alone in observing that the people who carried out these policies claimed they were merely “following orders,” as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement does now?
