Amherst Regional boys place eighth, girls 11th at state nordic championships

The Amherst Regional boys nordic ski team placed eighth Tuesday at the state championships, held at Prospect Mountain Ski Area in Woodford, Vermont.

The Hurricanes finished with 157 points against 17 other teams. Mount Greylock won with 25, followed by Concord-Carlisle (36) and Newton North (88).

Luke Sedor-Protti was the top finisher for Amherst. He placed 27th in 26 minutes, 19.7 minutes on the 5-kilometer course.

Willy Wright was 29th in 26:34.2, while Orion Cable (50th, 28:14.2), Ryan Dinger (55th, 28:24.1), Samuel Hare-Steig (56th, 28:30.1), Ethan Saxinian (78th, 30:11.4), Owen Price (93rd, 32:02.3) and Peter Treyz (106th, 28:58.8) also competed.

Jacob Jampel, of Newton North, won in 23:00.1.

The Amherst girls team placed 11th out of 17 teams with 227 points. Mount Greylock won with 31 points, followed by Acton-Boxborough (56) and Lenox (64).

Katherine King led the Hurricanes. She placed 50th in 30:37.9 on the 5K course.

Kendal Pittman was 53rd in 30:53.1, while Maya Fletcher-Spalding (61st, 32:01.5), Piper Lacy (71st, 32:51.5), Stelle Wenczel (78th, 33:20.6), Claudia Danford (92nd, 35:05.9), Calleghan Pittman (94th, 35:19.6) and Amalia Butler (121st, 40:42.7) also competed.

Isabel Cole, of Brookline, won the title in 23:47.3.
