NECBL honors 6 Valley Blue Sox with postseason recognition

Six members of the Valley Blue Sox received postseason recognition Tuesday.

Three players were named first-team all-NECBL, while an additional three landed on the all-South Division squad.

Martha’s Vineyard led the league with seven honorees.

Blue Sox shortstop Mason LaPlante (Yale), designated hitter Brian Hart (Marist) and starting pitcher Ryan Towle (UMass Lowell) received first team All-NECBL honors.

Hart was second in the NECBL with 12 homers and tied for second with 32 RBIs. He hit .261 and had seven doubles.

LaPlante scored 30 runs, good for ninth in the league. He hit .271 and drove in 26 runs.

Towle ranked eighth with 46 strikeouts in 28 innings. He led the league with six saves and added four wins with a 0.96 earned-run average in 17 appearances.

The all-Southern Division squad included second baseman Jack Housinger (Xavier), outfielder Luke Franzoni (Xavier) and pitcher Grant Kipp (Yale).

Housinger walked 40 times, hitting .283 with 14 RBIs and scoring 26 runs.

Kipp started six games, winning two. He walked just eight and struck out 39 with a 2.30 ERA.

Franzoni hit .285 and drove in 21 runs. He had 10 homers and 11 doubles.

The NECBL will announce the remainder of its end of the year awards throughout the week.
