Town officials from western Massachusetts will meet Wednesday with state Sen. Eric Lesser, D-Longmeadow, and Senate President Stanley Rosenberg, D-Amherst, in a roundtable discussion aimed at involving local officials in future legislation.

Select board members, town councilors and town administrators and managers from seven towns in the First Hampden and Hampshire District – including Belchertown and Granby – will participate in the discussion at 10:30 a.m. in Longmeadow High School room A15, according to a press release from Lesser’s office.

The meeting comes a month after the Municipal Modernization Bill updated municipal laws across the state. In the release, Lesser said the bill was a first step toward being more responsive to the needs of cities and towns, but more needs to be done.

“I’m interested in hearing directly from selectmen, town councilors, town administrators and town managers about the diverse set of challenges they face in the course of their work,” he said.
