Dear voter, My name is Maddie, and I’m 16 years old. Since I can’t vote, I’m writing to you because this election is a crucial turning point for all United States residents. President Donald Trump must go. I could go on about Donald Trump’s racism, sexism and xenophobia. But most of us know about that. For now, I will elaborate on some other aspects, which I hope will inspire further research.

President Trump has not condemned white supremacy. He recently told his supporters to “stand by,” knowing full well many of them are white supremacists. He has also shown that he does not believe in science. The United States initially signed the Paris Climate Agreement to combat climate change. President Trump pulled the United States out in June 2017. The Trump administration has pursued a pro-fossil fuels agenda, pushing our Earth to become warmer and warmer until it becomes catastrophic for humans.

President Trump’s fascist tendencies have emerged more recently. President Trump told a crowd of nearly all white supporters at a rally that they have “good genes,” painting a picture eerily similar to governments that descended into fascism in the past. President Trump has also said that he won’t let go of power quietly if he’s voted out of office in November. These statements sound very much like ones from fascists such as Benito Mussolini that I studied during my AP European History class last year.

Joe Biden is not perfect, but Trump’s mishandling of COVID-19 and botched foreign and domestic policy show he is an unfit president. Joe Biden is our best shot. He may change with the political winds, but he is at least open to policies that will better the lives of U.S. citizens. It is in our power to get the presidency away from Donald Trump. He is destroying the USA’s future. My future. To do this, we must vote for Joe Biden.

Someday, I hope we can vote for someone better. We just need to stop Trump first.
