SOUTH HADLEY — The Northwestern district attorney’s office on Thursday identified 48-year-old Chicopee resident Rachel Kimball as the person killed in a Tuesday night car crash on New Ludlow Road.

South Hadley, Granby and Chicopee police initially responded to the crash, which occurred near South Hadley’s border with Chicopee after 8 p.m. on Tuesday. On-scene firefighters extinguished a fire in one of the cars. Kimball was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mary Carey, spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office, said Wednesday that the driver of the other car remained on scene and cooperated with police. No charges or citations have been issued and none are expected, Carey said Thursday.

The incident is being investigated by the South Hadley Police, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Northwestern district attorney’s office, and the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS).
