NORTHAMPTON — Police are investigating a dozen instances of graffiti on Pleasant and Main streets that were first noticed early Monday morning.
Northampton Police Detective Lt. Craig Kirouac said an officer walking the beat around midnight Monday noticed 10 instances of vandalism at different addresses on Pleasant Street, as well as two on Main Street.
Kirouac said each tag was written in red and white spray paint. These 12 areas spray painted seem to have been done by the same person or group of people, Kirouac said, adding police are unsure exactly when the vandalism occurred. There have been other instances of vandalism downtown in the past few months that police do not believe are connected with the city’s most recent tagging.
Detective Honora Sullivan-Chin said police investigated graffiti in the same areas in early March. Sullivan-Chin said police identified a suspect in video surveillance footage but were unable to glean any details from it as the video quality was poor. She said police do not know the meanings of the messages in the tags.
In April, Sullivan-Chin said police were alerted to graffiti on the bike path and on Main Street. Police have a photo of a person of interest related to this graffiti and are asking anyone with knowledge of their identity or information about the tagging to call (413) 587-1100 or email hsullivanchin@northamptonma.gov.
