Northampton man to face charges in motor vehicle break-ins, assault with candy bar

AMHERST — A 30-year-old Northampton man is being summoned to court on a series of charges related to incidents at Colonial Village late Tuesday in which vehicles were broken into and a person was assaulted with a candy bar, according to Amherst Police.

Officers were summoned to the apartment complex at 81 Belchertown Road at 11:40 p.m. for a reported disturbance in which the suspect, later found at a nearby business, had allegedly damaged a window to an apartment and broken into at least three vehicles.

According to police dispatch logs, one victim told police that the assailant had tried to stuff a candy bar into his mouth before removing the candy bar and throwing it at him.

The suspect will go to a show-cause hearing at Eastern Hampshire District Court on two counts of defacing property and charges of breaking and entering a vehicle during the nighttime to commit a felony, assault and battery and disturbing the peace.
