SOUTH HADLEY — Mount Holyoke College students will be required to receive COVID-19 vaccines before the fall semester.

The college announced Friday that all members of the Mount Holyoke community will be expected to be vaccinated, though the mandate will apply only to students returning to campus.

“This will greatly reduce the risk of infection for all,” a letter to the college community states. “We expect there will be very limited exceptions and will be working to set up structures to ensure compliance and to vaccinate those students who are unable to be vaccinated before returning to campus.”

Mount Holyoke joins Smith College, Hampshire College and the University of Massachusetts in requiring all students to be vaccinated before attending for the fall semester. Amherst College has not yet announced whether such a requirement will be in place, but is holding a first-dose vaccine clinic for students Wednesday.
