Summer soccer/softball: Frontier boys beat Agawam in PVSSL

Connor Bagdon, Zach Hamilton and Matt Jenks all scored for the Frontier boys soccer team in a 3-1 win over Agawam in the Pioneer Valley Summer Soccer League in Whateley on Monday.

Bagdon’s goal came on a corner kick from Ngawang Deter to open the scoring.

Peter Bronke made eight saves for Frontier.

Little League Softball

Easthampton 11, Westfield 1 (5 innings) — Jocelyn Mettey pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the Game 1 win in the District 2 championships.

With the win, the U11 Easthampton All-Stars took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

Mettey paced the offense with four hits and three RBIs.

McKenzie McCarthy added three hits with an RBI, while Abby McClaflin singled three times with two RBIs.

Ashley Cortis (two RBIs) and Makenna Slate (one RBI) chipped in with two hits each.

Game 2 is at Nonotuck Park on Wednesday.

Westfield 4, Easthampton 2 — The Easthampton U10 All-Stars fell at home and are down 2-0 against Westfield in the District 2 championships.

Teagan Charles was 3-for-3 for Easthampton, while Kailyn Cabrini went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Caity Therrian pitched in relief with five strikeouts.
