DA’s office announces position changes

NORTHAMPTON — The office of Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan announces changes in its consumer protection and communication and outreach units following recent retirements.

Newly promoted Director of Consumer Protection Anita Wilson succeeds Janice Garrett, who served in the position for more than 20 years until her retirement in March. With the retirement of Communications Director Mary Carey on Friday, April 16, Laurie Loisel will assume the position of Director of Communication and Outreach.

Within the consumer protection unit, Wilson, of Hatfield, who has worked as consumer unit case coordinator since 2017, was promoted to director working primarily out of the Northampton office, and Brianna Fuller was named consumer protection case coordinator.

Previously, Wilson had worked for a local school system and was a news reporter and producer at WWLP from 1997-2006. She graduated from Greenfield Community College and from Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and political science.

Fuller, who has worked as a district court administrator for the district attorney’s office since January of 2020, will work out of the Greenfield office. Previously, she worked at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the research IT department after graduating from UMass in 2018.

The NWDA’s Consumer Protection Unit provides advocacy for consumer complaints and educate consumers about making informed decisions to protect themselves against fraud and scams.

Previously, Carey worked as a news reporter for 15 years at the Daily Hampshire Gazette, a middle school teacher, English language tutor and script reader. Since 2002, she has taught News Writing and Reporting and Writing for Public Relations at the UMass.

Loisel, hired in 2015 as NWDA’s director of community outreach and education, previously worked for 29 years as a reporter, feature writer and news editor at the Daily Hampshire Gazette. As communications and outreach director, she will work with the media on news related to the office and its criminal cases and with community groups on prevention and education initiatives.
