Local baseball/softball: Frontier catches Northampton late

The Frontier Mickey Mantle baseball team scored six runs over the final two innings to beat Northampton, 7-2, in Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League action, Tuesday.

Maxwell Edwards’ suicide squeeze in the top of the sixth inning scored Ben Martino (2-for-4) with the tying run. Martino singled, took second on a bobbled ball and moved to third on a Kevin Baumann grounder.

Gehrig Brynda later doubled to score Tynan Creagh (RB) with the go-ahead run in the sixth.

Frontier added four runs in the seventh to pull away.

Kyle Barnes (RBI), Dylan Martin (RBI), Jake Dodge, Tyler Baranowski, Tom Alber and Baumann (RBI) each had a single.

Jake Dodge struck out eight and allowed one hit in the win.

Anthony Azzaro singled and had an RBI for Northampton.


Valley Storm 18, NWS Elite 9 — Hannah Gilbert had four hits, including a double, home run and two RBIs, and MacKenzie Paulin smacked three hits, including a home run and a double to go with three RBIs as the Valley Storm 12U rolled Tuesday night.

Maggie Fay earned the win in the pitching circle, striking out five over five innings, while Gilbert came in and struck out six batters in two innings of relief.

Mel Ring had a hit and two RBIs for the Storm, while Fay and Cordelia Guerin each had a hit and Haly Doucette-Kaplan added an RBI.
