Thank you to Shelly Berkowitz and D. Dina Friedman for the thoughtful columns, “What ‘both sides’ really means in the Israel-Hamas struggle” and “Losing the light.” More than ever, we must choose peace over war and reject the cycle of retribution and ethno-tribalism that threatens to drag us into a global war that will lead to all of our destruction. We must denounce those who, in the words of Martin Luther King Jr., have “gone mad on war” and demand that our elected officials end the brutal bombing of Gaza with the same urgency they express for freeing the hostages. Only when Palestinians are recognized as equal citizens with the same right to freedom and self-determination as Israelis can the region achieve lasting peace.
