Regarding the recent opinion piece by Allen J. Davis and Tom Weiner in which it is suggested that Ukraine must give up territory in order to stop the war, I see no mention of what the Ukrainian people want [“Stop double standard; tell truth about Ukraine,” Gazette, June 29].

Even if “we” permitted (do we control NATO?) Ukraine to apply for NATO membership as a provocation to Russia, what would the writers suggest “we” do about the admission of Finland? Would they also suggest that was a provocation rather than a response to the Russian threat?

If we really stand for self-determination, we must continue to help Ukraine. The only thing that will bring Russia to a negotiating table will be losing.
