Don Ogden: Reality

There is no such thing as “alternative realities.” There is reality and there are misconceptions.

The recent op-ed “The Biggest Lie” (Gazette, Feb. 18) would have us believe otherwise. The writer would also have us believe that some of the rioters at the Nation’s Capitol “were there nonviolently to protest an election that they truly believe was stolen.” Sorry, nonviolence requires us to remove ourselves from violent situations, not to wave partisan flags and cheer on domestic terrorists.

The reality is a violent mob angrily broke into the nation’s Capitol causing death, injury, and deadly mayhem and no amount of “lack of agreement on fundamental truths” can provide cover, especially if one side is not being truthful, must less honorable. Enablers of violent insurrection can not claim “we didn’t know” if they never asked, that is also a reality.
