WEST SPRINGFIELD — A 54-year-old Springfield man was killed when he was ejected from a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero that rolled over on Interstate 91 near Exit 10B in West Springfield late Friday morning, according to State Police.

At around 11 a.m. troopers assigned to the Springfield barracks responded to the scene, where the driver had died. No passengers or other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The southbound lanes were closed at the exit for the investigation. Traffic was rerouted to Route 5 south, causing a significant backup for vehicles on the highway to the vicinity of the Holyoke Mall at Ingleside and the entrances from the Massachusetts Turnpike.

The crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, the Crime Scene Services Section and the Hampden County State Police Detective Unit.

All lanes reopened Friday afternoon. No further information was available.
