HOLYOKE — Newly elected city officials are set to be sworn in on Monday, Jan. 3 in Holyoke.

The city’s inauguration ceremony will take place at 10:01 a.m., per the city charter. It will be located at the City Hall auditorium, which will open its doors to the public at 9:30 a.m. The event is free, and everyone who attends will be required to wear a mask at all times.

Those who will be sworn in include Mayor Joshua Garcia, who already took part in one swearing-in ceremony on Nov. 15. That’s when Garcia took office to finish the end of Alex Morse’s term. Morse resigned as mayor in March in order to take the job as town manager of Provincetown.

Newly elected city councilors, School Committee members, the city clerk and city treasurer will also take the oath of office Monday.

The ceremony is set to feature performances from the Holyoke High School Madrigal Choir and the Caledonian Pipe Band.

In response to the continued and rapid increase of COVID-19 cases, Garcia announced Monday that the city would implement a mask mandate for all municipal buildings beginning on Tuesday.
