HOLYOKE — Two people were displaced by a fire in a three-story apartment building at 70 Chestnut St. Wednesday morning, according to the Holyoke Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the building at around 9:30 a.m. for alarms generated by the sprinkler system’s water flow, Fire Capt. Kevin Cavagnac said in a statement.

Cavagnac said firefighters found a fire in the bathroom of a second-floor apartment and that the sprinkler system had contained the fire to the bathroom.

There was water and smoke damage to the apartment and the apartment below and a Holyoke Fire Department investigator deemed the cause of the fire to be accidental.

The displaced tenants are being assisted by family and the building owner and no injuries were reported, according to the Fire Department.
