HOLYOKE — Holyoke Community College is giving tours of its new culinary arts and hospitality education and training center on Saturday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. as part of the Celebrate Holyoke festival.

The new $6.2 million, 19,888-square-foot HCC MGM Culinary Arts Institute received funding from federal, state and local sources, as well as $100,000 from MGM Resorts, which owns and operates the MGM Springfield casino.

With a tentative completion date in late September, noncredit classes are expected to start in December and credit classes in the spring.

“We’re going to have the latest and greatest of everything,” chef and HCC culinary arts professor Warren Leigh said in a statement. “It’s going to be the finest, free-standing community college hospitality and culinary arts education and training center in New England.”

Saturday’s event will begin at noon with food and remarks from Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse, HCC President Christina Royal and others.

The center will occupy the first and second floors of the Cubit Building on the corner of Appleton and Race streets. The institute will feature, among other things, several teaching kitchens with modern equipment, a dining room, smart classrooms, a hotel laboratory, a student lounge, conference space and offices.
