Jenna Birks scored a career-high 17 points on senior night, and the Belchertown girls basketball team beat Hampshire Regional, 54-48, in overtime Thursday.

The Orioles trailed by one late in the fourth and sent Hampshire Regional to the line. The Raiders made one free throw, and Belchertown secured the rebound and called timeout with 10-12 seconds left, Orioles coach Jay Woodcock said.

Emma Leblanc (four points) tied the game with a layup with under five seconds remaining.

Birks hit a 3 during the overtime period that put the game away.

Sonia Dugger, who anchors the back of Belchertown’s defense, had 10 points and 20 rebounds.

“Absolutely dominant defensively,” Woodcock said.

Elise Pikul added 12 points and five steals for the Orioles (6-8, 2-2 Suburban).

Maggie Rubeck scored 16 for Hampshire (8-8, 1-4), while Maddie Pond made two 3s and added 12 points.

Lila Labrie also hit two 3s and scored 11 for the Raiders.

Northampton 44, Longmeadow 29 — Emily Sledzieski scored all eight of her points in the second quarter, hitting two 3s and sinking a coast-to-coast layup after a steal that helped the Blue Devils open their lead up.

Jill McGrath added 18 points for Northampton (13-2, 3-1 Valley), which has won four in a row.

Kolbie Jones had five points.

Granby 47, Palmer 25 — Nora Young scored 19 points, and the Rams clamped down on defense in the second half of a road win. They outscored Palmer 24-9 in the second half.

Julia Gauvin had eight points, while Kaeleigh Croteau hit two 3s and scored seven points for Granby (6-8, 3-1 Central).

Ware 47, Smith Academy 27 — A 22-point third-quarter pushed the Indians past the Falcons in Hatfield. Erin Gilrein hit four 3-pointers for a team-high 12 points while Emma Kelly grabbed 15 rebounds and Karlie Guimond secured 10 for the Falcons (9-7).

South Hadley 49, Ludlow 28 — Mia Kelly scored 12 points to lead the Tigers on the road. Paige Marjanski added nine points for South Hadley (11-4, 4-0 Suburban).

Hopkins Academy 72, Mohawk 19 — Samantha Jenks outscored the Warriors on her own with 27 points in a home win.

Allison Kowal-Safron hit five 3s and added 19 points. Carolyn Kowal-Safron had two 3s and eight points. Gabby Palmisano grabbed 11 rebounds for Hopkins (11-5).

Gateway 34, Commerce 27 — Peyton Bucko hit four 3s and scored a career-high 14 points in a home win. Becca Herman added seven points for the Gators (11-5, 8-0 Tri-County South).

St. Mary 51, Smith Vocational 43 — Sydney Cyr scored 22 points and hit two 3s in a road loss.

Megan Cone had eight points for the Vikings (5-10, 2-5 Tri-County South).

Amherst Regional 54, Agawam 51 — Erin Klaes splashed five 3s and scored 25 points, as the Hurricanes won on the road.

Delaney MacPhetres added 11 points on seven free throws, and Petua Mukimba scored seven for Amherst (6-8).

Mahar 62, Easthampton 21 — Valerie Murphy scored six points in a road loss. Emma Downer and Rina Damon added four points each for the Eagles (3-10).

Boys basketball

Frontier Regional 54, West Springfield 43 — Carsten Carey pulled down a career-high 30 rebounds and scored 22 points, as the Red Hawks extended their winning streak to 12.

Owen Morse had 14 points, and Peter Carey scored eight for Frontier (13-1).

Westfield Tech 55, Gateway Regional 42 — Jayden Santiago-Lopez paced the visiting Gators with 18 points and was joined in double figures by Evan Cortis (14 points).

Smith Vocational 59, Pathfinder 56 — Jayvon Cordova rained five 3s and scored a career-high 23 points. Colin Earle added 13 points for the Vikings (7-6).

Hockey

Easthampton 3, Wahconah 0 — Christopher Tenczar scored twice, while Garren Fugiel had a goal and two assists as the Eagles (9-5) cruised at Lossone Rink.

Ely Boyle scored and Mike McColgan had one assist. Tyler Cortis made 16 saves in the shutout.
