High schools: Sofia DaSilva-Askew, Amherst girls tennis clip Northampton (PHOTOS)

No. 1 singles player Sofia DaSilva-Askew secured the Amherst Regional girls tennis team’s 3-2 win over Northampton on Thursday with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against the Blue Devils’ Daria Warren.

The Hurricanes also benefited from a forfeit at No. 2 doubles, and Northampton’s Summer Sorensen couldn’t continue the second set at No. 3 singles with an injury. Amherst’s Emma Learned-Miller won the first set, 6-2.

Northampton’s Louisa Dice prevailed 6-1, 6-3 against Daniella Sherman at No. 2 singles.

The Blue Devils’ No. 1 doubles pair of Ursula Von Goeler and Annalisa Agliati won 6-2, 6-1 against Ella McDermott and Mahina Ganesun.

Baseball

Monument Mountain 3, Belchertown 1 – Brady Perkins logged two hits, while Jack Dinapoli doubled, but the Orioles lost for the first time all season in the completion of a suspended game from earlier in the week.

Belchertown’s Joey Mankowsky scored in the third inning. Tyler McDonald and Derek Gould singled for the Orioles.

Westfield 12, Northampton 1 (5) — Caleb Steineger launched his second homer among his two hits for the Blue Devils. Northampton pitcher Ryan Crowther struck out four.

Hampshire 24 Mohawk Trail 2 (5) – Drew Thompson doubled and tripled with four RBIs for the Raiders. Hampshire’s Jack Boyle drilled a two-run triple among his two hits, while Cody Gaida, Liam Pond and Mikey Thompson each had two hits.

Vynce Carr dropped in his first two varsity hits for Hampshire and drove in two runs, while Brennan Stortz added his first varsity hit. Phil Morin added an RBI double for the Raiders.

Hampshire starter Cole Hogan allowed just two hits and two unearned runs with seven strikeouts.

Smith Voc 10, Putnam 0 – The Vikings continued their dominant start to 2023 with another double-digit victory.

Through six games, Smith Vocational (6-0) still hasn’t allowed a run, and it’s outscoring opponents by a whopping 78-0 margin. Thursday’s win over Putnam was the club’s third straight 10-0 victory.

Softball

Gateway 14, Putnam 0 — Angela Magyar tossed a five-inning no-hitter, striking out six as the Gators rolled to a win over Putnam on Thursday in Huntington. 

Olivia Dame knocked three hits, one a triple, and brought in three runs. Kaitlyn Maynard had a pair of hits and RBIs while Anna Sakaske and Sawyer Wilkinson hit safely in the win. 

Hopkins 3, Mohawk Trail 1 – Golden Hawks pitcher Kaelyn Zakaitis struck out 17 batters, lifting the visitors to a 3-1 victory on Thursday in Buckland.

Taylor Barry tripled to pace the offense for Hopkins Academy.

Agawam 12, Holyoke 0 (5) — Kylie Blaha went the distance in the circle for the Purple Knights, which were held without a hit by the Brownies on Thursday in Agawam.

Westfield Tech 14, Smith Vocational 0 (5) – Vanessa Antil and Makayla Tatro each had a hit for the Vikings in a loss on Thursday. Antil went all five innings in the circle.

Franklin Tech 26, Smith Academy 4 (5) — Keighley Gworek struck out one while Jillian Lavallee had two hits while Caitlin Graves, Haley Springman and Nataly Slysz hit safely in a loss to the Eagles on Thursday in Hatfield. 

Boys lacrosse

Agawam 10, Belchertown 2 – Ryan Queiros and Brady Moreau each tallied for the Orioles in a 10-2 loss on Thursday.

Elias Marques notched an assist for Belchertown.

West Springfield 13, Amherst 6 — Skyler Ferro and Tre Nguyen each had a pair of goals in the Hurricanes’ loss to the Terriers on Thursday. 

Ollie Timko and Tre Bowman each had a goal, Skyler Ferro dished two assists while Max Frenette made 11 saves for Amherst. 

Girls lacrosse

Belchertown 14, Granby 12 – Sam Pacunas poured in eight goals and an assist for the Orioles in a home win. Madysen Lepage added a hat trick and four assists for Belchertown

Belchertown’ s Michelle Zaluga found the net twice, and Veronica Dymkowski scored once. Madysen Lepage added an assist.

Granby’s Ella Laliberte scored seven times, while Mylin Laliberte found the net twice.

Ava Elizabeth, Brenna Morena and Kalli White (assist) each found the net once for the Rams.

Boys volleyball

West Springfield 3, Frontier 0 – Owen Babb had seven kills, as the Redhawks fell for the first time this season 25-15, 25-15, 25-21. Ngawang deter distributed 18 assists with two aces. Frontier’s Aleks Carey put down five kills, while Jack Carey added four kills. Brady Burch fired nine aces.
