High Schools: Andrew Ciaglo’s hat trick propels Hopkins Academy to boys soccer win

Andrew Ciaglo fired home a hat trick and added an assist in the 22nd minute, as the Hopkins Academy boys soccer team held down Pioneer Regional 8-2 in Hadley on Thursday.

Cody West contributed three assists. Patrick Fitzgibbons and Alex Pichizaca netted two goals apiece, while Teddy Cyr distributed two assists. Charlie Wintsch had a goal just before the halftime whistle, and Dominic Aloisi assisted Ciaglo’s second goal.

Smith Academy 1, Renaissance 0 — Logan Graves converted a penalty in the 19th minute, and it was enough for the Falcons on the road.

Ryan Belina turned away two shots for Smith Academy.

South Hadley 4, Mount Everett 1 — Charlie Anischik contributed two goals and an assist in a road win.

The Tigers put away three in the second half to pull away.

Brady Mendoza (assist) and Ben Foley also scored once each for South Hadley. Carlos David added an assist.

Tyler Evans made two saves.

Frontier 4, Lenox 2 — Tyler Dubrieul scored twice, including a game-tying penalty in the 31st minute, as the Redhawks won in the Berkshires. Frontier had two penalty kicks in the first half. Chanhee Son converted the other.

Ngawang Deter also scored for Frontier.

Frontier’s Cairn Bright and Dante Ruggiano added one assist each.

Dylan Martin made two saves for the Redhawks.

Girls soccer

Northampton 6, Holyoke 1 — Sofia Ciaglo put away a hat trick and chipped in an assist, as the Blue Devils won at home.

Brianna Heafty (assist), Roxana Clauson and Caroline Skubiszewski each found the net once.

Ava Azarro had one save for Northampton.

Holyoke’s Emma Puza tucked away a free kick for the Purple Knights’ goal.

Jayvah Stuckey turned away 11 shots for Holyoke.

Belchertown 4, Westfield 0 — Avery Klingensmith scored a hat trick with an assist in a home win for the Orioles

Mia Corish also found the net once. Ashley Cunningham, Alexa Laflame and Fallon Clancy added an assist each. Mabelle Bessette (two saves) and Jill Debarge (one save) combined for the shutout.

Smith Vocational 0, Westfield Tech 0 — Vikings keeper Maggie Lauder made seven saves to ensure a point at home.

Lee 4, Gateway 0 — Jayliana Rivera saved four shots at home, and Amy Fisk had two shots for the Gators.

Field hockey

Smith Academy 8, Mahar 0 — Charlotte Hennings had a hat trick and an assist, as the Falcons rolled. She opened the scoring 4:17 in.

Maisy Dyer added a goal and two assists.

Charlotte Cavanaugh and Makena Valentine contributed a goal and an assist each.

Bailey McCoy and Crista Kemp scored once each, while Amanda Novak added an assist.

The Falcons didn’t allow a shot on goal.

Belchertown 1, Holyoke 1 — Isabella Cebula put the Orioles ahead in the first quarter, but Gracie Chesmore tied it for the Purple Knights in the third.

Belchertown’s Abigail Odlen and Holyoke’s Samantha Brennan had an assist each.

Purple Knights goalie Izzy Murphy made 10 saves. Eliza Rothstein kept out three shots for Belchertown.

Westfield 7, Northampton 1 — Pearl Davis found the cage in the second quarter for the Blue Devils.

Northampton goalie Mavis Rudof made 11 saves.

Hampshire 1, Palmer 0 — Silvia Bastek found the winner for the Raiders in the first period.

Girls volleyball

Frontier 3, Minnechaug 0 — Jillian Apanell put down 18 kills with seven digs, as the Redhawks won 25-15, 25-14, 25-18.

Brooke Davis added 11 digs. Sydney Scanlon contributed 30 assists.

Lilah Evan shad seven kills, four aces and five digs.

Easthampton 3, Chicopee 1 — Delima Fournier had 31 assists, five aces and seven digs, as the Eagles won 24-26, 25-17, 25-13, 25-19 at home.

Skylar Raskevitz pulled up 23 digs with two aces. Maggie Bar put down 11 kills with eight digs and three blocks. Marlina Devine added eight kills and seven digs,

Agawam 3, South Hadley 1 — Erica Anderson amassed 15 kills and 18 assists, as the Tigers fell 25-23, 25-16, 24-26, 25-19 on the road.

Talia Ruibe added 23 digs.

Allie Sowers had four kills, 13 digs and three aces, while Ella Marion had eight assists and four kills.


Amherst 14, South Hadley 10 — Hurricanes No. 1 Piet Hartman earned the match medalist honors with a 37 and defeated Keegan Earle 4-0.

Amherst’s Ben Oates prevailed 3½-½ over Ben Gardiner at No. 3.

South Hadley’s Nick Hartley tied Nate Hawkins 2-2 at No. 4.

South Hadley No. 2 Austin Deren defeated Chase Lashway 3½-½ at No. 2.

At No. 5, the Tigers’ Bennett Allen swept Ben Scott 4-0, and South Haley’s John Viole bested Jay Johnson 4-0 at No. 6.

Hampshire 20½, Chicopee 3½ — Levi Zielinski shot a 44 to earn the match medalist for the Raidres and beat Nicholas Consedine 3½-½ at Beaver Brook.

Nicky Elias Gillette (No. 3) and Pryden Messier (No. 5) picked up 4-0 victories over Jarrett Madru and Tanner Parrow, respectively.

Hampshire’s Owen Lech beat Travis Lavigne 3-1 at No. 4.

Brayden Fenessy of Hampshire tied Jacob Tassinari 2-2 at No. 2.

Chicopee didn’t have a No. 6, so Ben MacFadzen won by forfeit.

Frontier 14, Monson 10 — Each Redhawk golfer shot between a 42 and 48 at Cherry Hill.

Ryan Cetto carded a team-low 42 for the Redhawks while Kevin Baumann shot a 43, Cam Skiffington finished with a 44, Cade Allenby and Alex Gochinski both shot a 45 and Shane Prusak recorded a 48.
