SOUTH HADLEY — Small ball built just big enough of a lead for the Hampshire Regional baseball team in a 10-8 victory over South Hadley on Friday.

Just two of the Raiders’ nine hits went for extra bases, but Hampshire scored 10 runs in five innings.

“We scored enough runs to win, and I thought we had some good at bats,” Hampshire coach Mark Baldwin said.

Drew Thompson drove in two runs and threw six innings with 10 strikeouts to earn the win. Jack Boyle and Mikey Thompson (RBI) each doubled among their two hits and scored two runs each.

Cody Gaida (two runs), Jacob Sicard and Jacob Meunier each drove in a run for Hampshire.

The Raiders showed bunt on three straight at bats in the fourth inning. Edward Przybyla forced an error that brought in a run after he laid his down.

“Part of the reason is when we have a 2-1 game and we need it, we can do it,” Baldwin said. “We didn’t do it perfectly, but you can do it in practice all the time, but you have to do it in game situations when it’s harder to read.”

South Hadley responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Tigers’ bats came alive in the bottom of the seventh. With their bats against the wall, Memphis Huertas, Ryan Netkovick and Ben Foley each singled to load the bases.
