High schools: Nico St. George’s 5 goals pace Belchertown boys lacrosse in win over Northampton

Nico St. George put away five goals for the Belchertown boys lacrosse team, which scored six goals in the third quarter to put away a 13-5 victory over Northampton at home Thursday.

Belchertown’s Vubcebt Ting and Caleb Reardon (assist) had two goals each, while Brady Moreau distributed three assists while scoring once himself.

Rylan Queiros passed two assists with a goal, while Elias Marques and Landon Andre (assist) found the net once each.

Northampton’s Minty Peterson finished with a hat trick, and Jack Sullivan and Lazarus Dominguez each scored once.

Girls lacrosse

East Longmeadow 24, Belchertown 3 – Sam Pacunas, Madysen LePage and Paige Magner each found the net once for the Orioles at home.

Baseball

Hampshire 5, Holyoke 4 (8) — Mikey Thompson (two runs) scored the Raiders’ winning run on a wild pitch in extra innings. He singled with one out then reached third on a fly ball form Jacob Sicardd.

Hampshire’s Drew Thompson tied the game in the seventh with a two-out triple that brought around Shane Winters, who pinch ran after catcher Zach Phakos singled. Edward Przybyla (two hits) put down a bunt to bring Winters to second.

Thompson didn’t allow a hit in 4⅔ inning of relief. He struck out six for the Raiders.

Hampshire’s Liam Pond with 2-for-4 with an RBI double.

Martin Phillips threw all eight innings for Holyoke, striking out seven with one walk.

Annabel Diaz went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Purple Knights, while Devan Santos hit a two-run Single. Braeden Lamirande singled and added an RBI on a sacrifice fly for Holyoke.

Wahconah 12, Frontier 2 (6) — Nine errors were too much to for the Redhawks to overcome, falling on the road in an independent contest to the Warriors on Thursday.

Grayson Loos had a pair of  hits while Nico Fasulo and  Tyler Cusson both knocked a hit for Frontier. Loos and Wyatt Edes each had three strikeouts in the defeat.

Softball

Hopkins Academy 11, Frontier Regional 4 — Taylor Barry doubled twice and drove in three runs for the Golden Hawks at home.

Hopkins Academy pitcher Kaelyn Zakaitis struck out 12 to earn the win in the circle and added a triple and two RBIs at the plate.

Lilly Ellia drove in two runs.

Frontier’s Skylar Steele launched a solo homer.

Boys tennis

PVCICS 5, Turners Falls 0 — The Dragons displayed their depth in a clean sweep. Aidan Cleary bested Mike Boyle 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while PVCICS’ top doubles pair of James and Teddy Scott won 6-0, 6-0 against John Carmichael and Vaughn LaValley.

At No. 2 doubles, Arnick Eshtiaghi and Timmy Sun beat Edward Walsh and Max Briere 6-1, 6-0.

Asa Tagger won the last 10 games of his 6-2, 6-0 victory over Patrick Andrews.

Clayton English closed the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Noah Kolodziej.

Belchertown 3, Agawam 2 — The Orioles No. 2 doubles team of Luke Dudek and Tyler Burrows clinched the match with a marathon three-set victory over Egor Mikhaylov and Ruslan Bubuza. Belchertown won the first set 6-2 before falling 6-7 [5-7]. With the match hanging in the balance, the Orioles won 7-5 in the third.

Orioles No. 1 singles player Trevor Weiss bested Cole Stepanik 6-1, 6-0. At No. 1 doubles, Belchertown’s Cam Kozowka and

Jake Gormely won 6-3, 6-3 over Tyler Gervais and Roy (Mingie) Kim.

Boys volleyball

Belchertown 3, Athol 1 — Connor White put down 13 kills, as the Orioles prevailed 18-25, 33-31, 25-15, 25-20.

Belchertown’s Rainer Kristensen distributed 19 assists. Shea MacLean registered three blocks, while Ty Bodanovich contributed four kills and an ace for the Orioles. Cam Buley fired two aces for Belchertown.

Frontier 3, Pioneer Christian 0 — Brady Burch had 11 kills with 12 digs in a 25-7, 25-21, 25-14 victory that qualified the Redhawks for the postseason.

Frontier’s Ngawang Deter (three kills) and Jesse Kurkolonis (five kills) contributed 18 assists and three aces each.

Owen Babb led the Redhawks with four aces and had six kills. Frontier’s Jack Carey pulled up 10 digs with eight kills.
