HOLYOKE — For the third time in as many years, the Holyoke girls’ basketball team is adding a new name to its 1,000 point scoring banner.

Amilyan Treadwell-Mercedes is the newest member of the club after achieving the milestone on Friday night against Springfield International Charter School.

The senior sank a free throw with 6 minutes, 37 seconds remaining in the third quarter, putting her at 1,000 points on the dot during the Purple Knights’ 59-33 loss at John “Jinx” O’Connor Gymnasium.

Holyoke’s Bianca Ortiz-Cordero recorded her 1,000th career point in 2022, and Ashley Vazquez joined the club in 2023. Earlier this month, Jamil Rodriguez scored his 1,000th point for the HHS boys’ basketball team.

Treadwell-Mercedes entered Friday’s game needing eight points to reach 1,000.

She opened the Senior Night tilt against SICS with a free throw, and sank a layup with 4:27 remaining in the first quarter.

She hit a turnaround jumper and banked in a fastbreak layup late in the opening period to get to 999 points, and the Knights trailed just 14-10 after the first quarter.

The Bulldogs tightened up around her down low in the second quarter however, holding Treadwell-Mercedes off the board completely in the eight-minute session. SICS took a 24-16 lead into halftime.

That set the stage for the third quarter. She took an open jumper just behind the free throw line, and while the shot was off the mark, she followed the ball and grabbed an offensive rebound. On the putback attempt, Treadwell - Mercedes was fouled, sending her at the line for two shots.
