South Hadley pitcher Isabella Schaeffer struck out 20 batters and threw a one-hit shutout against Northampton on Thursday, as the Tigers prevailed 2-0.

She walked just one and added a single.

South Hadley’s Jae Velazquez drove in both runs and hit three singles. Jenna Bobrowski touched home twice and singled twice for the Tigers.

Northampton’s Caroline Riordan tripled. Blue Devils pitcher Kaliya Valentin struck out eight without a walk.

Hampshire 11, Chicopee 0 — Senior Jocelyn Mettey threw a no-hitter for the Raiders with 15 strikeouts. The Pacers’ only batter reached on an error in the sixth inning.

It was her seventh career no-hitter, including a perfect game earlier this season. Mettey also had a no-hitter against Chicopee in her varsity debut as an eighth grader and threw Thursday’s against the Pacers in her final regular season game.

“She’s throwing really well. Hopefully it continues through the tournament,” Hampshire coach Brian McGan said.

Hampshire’s Hailey Wodecki doubled twice among her three hits. CC Thayer had three RBIs and a triple for the Raiders.

Longmeadow 10, Easthampton 9 — Lauren Morse drove in four runs with three hits, but the Eagles fell at home Wednesday.

The Lancers scored three runs in the top of the seventh.

Easthampton’s Jessica Cloutier drove in two runs, and Sophia Faginski had three hits. Ana Growhowski added two hits and an RBI, while Kayley Downie singled twice.

Baseball

South Hadley 10, Amherst 8 — Burke Belsky had three hits for the Tigers, which put up three runs in the top of the sixth inning to win the completion of a suspended game from earlier this week. South Hadley’s Matt Drobiak singled twice in the win.

Elijah Rubinstein had three hits and four RBIs for the Hurricanes. Chuck May (two runs) and Spencer Waite added two hits and an RBI each.

South Hadley finished on top of the roller coaster game which began Tuesday night and needed to be suspended because of darkness.

 

South Hadley 8, Palmer 0 — Liam Carpenter had two hits and two RBIs for the Tigers on Wednesday.

South Hadley’s Matt Drobiak struck out seven and allowed just one hit and a walk to earn the win over six innings.

Ryan Netkovick also drove in two runs, while Marcelo Huertas doubled among his two hits and had an RBI for the Tigers.

Boys lacrosse

Belchertown 8, Chicopee Comp 2 — Landon Andre and Chris Daskam put away two goals each for the Orioles on Wednesday, while Brady Moreau added two assists.

Belchertown’s Jack Dragon, Elias Marques, Caleb Reardon and Vincent Ting each contributed a goal and an assist.

Girls lacrosse

South Hadley 7, Hampshire 6 — Eliana Britton scored twice, as the Tigers won on the road. South Hadley’s Evelyn Gingras saved 10 shots.

Ava Asselin, Margaret Watkins and Jordyn Balint contributed a goal and an assist each for South Hadley, while Raquel Losty found the net once.

Hampshire’s Anna Puttick put away two goals, while Mary Thibault added a goal and an assist. Dana Warren, Reagan Mott and Ryleigh Fennessey put away a goal each. Raiders goalie Abby Hennessy turned away five shots, including the 300th save of her career.

East Longmeadow 20, Granby 3 — Ella Laliberte, Kelly-Lynne Kennedy and Kalli White each socred once for the Rams on the road. Granby goalie Faith Ramos made seven saves.

Boys tennis

Northampton 5, Minnechaug 0 — Reilly Fowles paced the blue Devils with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 1 singles, defeating Kelvin Ohemeng.

Max Cahillane bested Hayden Richard 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2, and Durrell Patrick won 6-2, 6-0 over Owen Perry at No. 3.

At No. 1 doubles, Northampton’s Aidan and Ethan Metz prevailed 6-1, 6-4 over Ethan Ray and Mereck Epperson. Maitreya Aben and Oliver Levine secured the sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Joshua Lawrence and Alex Gormley at No. 2 doubles.

Belchertown 3, Quaboag 2 — Doubles success carried the Orioles on Wednesday.

Belchertown’s 1 pair Cam Kazowka and Jake Gormley defeated Dylan Piazza and Gabe Paquette 6-4, 6-3, and Luke Dudek and Tyler Burrows prevailed 6-1, 6-2 over Blake Lopato and Camden Olivo.

Orioles No. 1 singles player Trevor Weiss took down Brandon Allen 6-0, 6-4.

Girls tennis

Longmeadow 5, South Hadley 0 — The Tigers’ Estella Estrada pushed Longmeadow’s Anaya Mohani in a 6-4, 6-2 loss at No. 3 singles.

Boys volleyball

Frontier 3, Longmeadow 1 – The Redhawks shook off a second-set loss on Senior Night to capture their 16th victory of the season on Thursday.

The defending champion Redhawks (16-2) will be the No. 1 seed in next week’s WMass Class C tournament.

Setter Tavo Vincent-Warner dished out 39 assists for Frontier, while Aleks Carey put down 13 kills and Jesse Kurkulonis joined him in double figures with 11. Jack Carey added eight kills, and Owen Babb chipped in with five. Ngawang Deter amassed a team-high 17 digs.

Kurkulonis, Deter, Brady Burch and Asa Jackson were honored on Senior Night.

Boys tennis

PVCICS shines at individuals

It was quite a performance from the PVCICS boys tennis team at the annual Western Mass. Individual Championships in Longmeadow.

Top singles player Aidan Cleary, who was seeded seventh in the field, reached the WMass final before falling to top-seeded Kevin Liang, 6-2, 6-0. Along the way, Cleary won four matches, including victories over No. 2 seed Miles Jeffries of Amherst and No. 3 seed Trevor Weiss of Belchertown.

In doubles action, unseeded James and Teddy Scott made a magical run to the title match before falling to top-seeded Niko Warren and Enzo Cerra of Longmeadow. They took down a pair of teams, including sixth-seeded Ben Goodreau and Jon Goncalves of Ludlow in the semifinals.

Williston results

Scarlette Graybill scored five goals to give her 50 on the season, as the Williston Northampton girls lacrosse team earned a 17-6 win over Suffield on Wednesday.

Louisa Coughlin (4G), Camille Armaganian (3G) and Liv Ferebee (2G) helped pace the offense, and goalie Hazel Jacobs finished with seven saves.

Elsewhere, the boys varsity lacrosse team fell 6-4 to Westminster at home. TJ Sullivan, Joe Killcommons, Joe Easton, Jack Ballinger tallied, and Jack Morrison made nine saves.

The girls golf team split a pair of matches with Miss Hall’s  and Loomis at Wyndhurst Golf Club in Lenox, buoyed by medalist Mayphia Zhou.
