PHOTOS: Sofia Holden dazzles for Amherst softball against Holyoke

Amherst Regional softball pitcher Sofia Holden was dominant in the circle against Holyoke, striking out 17 batters and also going 4-for-5 at the plate in a 10-2 win for the Hurricanes.

Holden plated three times and also brought in three RBIs. Teammate Grace Johnson whacked three hits and scored once and Isabella Kochan and Maria Konieczny both had two hits, with Kochan also plating twice and picking up an RBI.

Holyoke’s Jayshalee and Jaycalee both had two hits and pitcher Kylie Blaha struck out three batters and allowed 15 hits.

Monson 13, Belchertown 1 (6) – Laura Cote scored Belchertown’s only run as Monson held Belchertown hitless on Wednesday.

Cote threw all six innings for the Orioles, striking out five batters and allowing 16 hits.

St. Mary’s 11, Gateway 9 - Alexi Bonenfant went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and Willow Hicks notched two hits, including a double, in a tight loss to St. Mary’s.

Pitcher Angela Magyar threw all seven innings, striking out five and walking five batters.

Greenfield 9, Hampshire 6 (8) - The Green Wave put up three runs in the eighth in Westhampton to end the Raiders’five-game winning streak.

Hailey Wodecki launched a three-run double in the seventh for Hampshire that sent the game to extras after the Raiders put up five runs.

Tegan Charles (two RBIs) and Rachael Hickox had two hits each.

Hopkins Academy 10, Franklin Tech 3 – Lily Ellia (double), Jessie Markowski and Maggie Potter drove in two runs each for the Golden Hawks, who won their seventh game in a row.

Hopkins Academy’s Daisy Vendetti dropped in two hits. Kaelyn Zakaitis allowed just five hits and struck out one in a complete game.

Pioneer Regional 18, Smith Academy 2 (5) – Caitlin Graves and Keene Jeffress each had two hits for the Falcons. Jeffress and Alexa Jagodzinski scored Smith Academy’s two runs and Jillian Lavallee drove in one with an RBI.

South Hadley 2, Minnechaug 0 – Jenna Bobrowski picked up a single in the Tigers shutout win over Minnechaug on Wednesday.

Baseball

Easthampton 12, Athol 2 (5) – Topher Reardon homered and doubled for the Eagles, scoring two runs. Easthampton’s. Zak Thibodeau also doubled and scored two runs

Amherst 18, Mohawk Trail 5 - Arey Rubenstein, Caleb Sexton and Spencer Waite didn’t allow a hit for the Hurricanes at home. Waite struck out four, while Rubinstein had two punch outs. Amherst issued six walks with two hit batters.

Ian Waite and Thatcher Rudnik (three runs) drove in three runs each for Amherst. Matthew Vassal added two RBIs, while Matthew Hickman and Elijah Rubinstein (two runs) drove in a run each. Hurricanes leadoff man Neil Cunniffe touched home four times, while Charlie May scored three runs.

Hampshire 4, Frontier 0 — Jack Boyle struck out seven and allowed just three hits in a complete game for the Raiders. He walked five, but Hampshire’s defense turned two double plays. Hampshire’s Justin Meaner had two hits and two RBIs, while Drew Thompson registered an infield hit that brought in two runs.

Edward Przybyła (two walks) and Jacob Sicard each single and scored a run.

Frontier’s Nico Fasulo had two hits, while Liam Skribiski-Banack had a hit and struck out three while pitching the first five innings for the Redhawks.

Hopkins Academy 3, Greenfield 0 — It was a pitchers duel between Green Wave Michael Pierce and Golden Hawk Cody West on Wednesday in Hadley.

Pierce held Hopkins to just three hits, striking out five and walking two while West allowed a mere two hits while striking out seven and walking three. The Golden Hawks were able to get three runs across, however, to earn a Suburban League West win.

West helped himself with a double while Chase Earle tallied two hits in the win.

Smith Vocational 5, St. Mary’s 4 – With the game tied 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh, the Vikings scored a walk-off run to give them the victory on Wednesday.

Rosco Palmer led the team with three runs, two hits and one RBI. Caelan Finnie and Cayden Payne each notched a hit and an RBI, and Pat Millin plated once and picked up one hit.

Pitcher Tyler Carlson went the distance, striking out five batters and allowing just three hits in the win.

Boys lacrosse

West Springfield 15, Northampton 3 – Henry Fallon made 15 saves for the Blue Devils with eight of those coming in the first quarter.

Though the Blue Devils took an early 1-0 lead, they couldn’t keep up with West Springfield. Jack Carpenter scored all three of Northampton’s goals and Keller Mahoney and Jackson Oravec each had an assist.

Girls lacrosse

Mount Greylock 14, Northampton 3 – Teaghan McDonald scored twice, while Casey Barber put away a goal for the Blue Devils at home.

Boys tennis

Longmeadow 4, Northampton 1 – The Blue Devils No. 1 double pair of Aidan and Ethan Metz picked up a point after beating Nicholas Warren and Zhenghao Li 7-6, 6-7, 10-5.

Girls tennis

Frontier 4, Turners 1 — The Redhawks took all three singles matches to walk away with a victory over the Thunder in Turners on Wednesday.

Sydney Scanlon earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Steph Peterson in No. 1 singles, Maddie Powers picked up a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 triumph in No. 2 singles over Avery Heathwaite in the best match of the day while Hashini Ratnatunge picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory in No. 3 singles over Rachel Harris for Frontier.

PVCICS 3, Mohawk Trail 2 – The Dragons depth delivered a road win. Christina Heaney earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles.

At No. 1 doubles, Sabine Loinaz and Nina Zorzi prevailed 6-3, 6-3.

Chelsea Chartier and Kendall Christenson sealed the match at no. 2 doubles 6-1, 7-5.

Belchertown 5, Holyoke 0 - The Orioles No. 1 doubles team of Kasey GIbbons and Katie Collins led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Maura Dulude and Brenna Phillips.

Amber Drummon prevailed 6-2, 6-3 over Allison Jourdain at No. 1 singles.

At No. 3 singles, Anna Stamp beat Sam Rodriguez 6-3, 6-1.

Ellie Gleinas defeated Kelsey Brainard 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Belchertown’s Lauren Morris and Caroline Primavera prevailed 6-1 in the first set against Emiah Garcia and Mohab Ramaden but needed a 7-6(7-4) marathon in the second.

Longmeadow 4, Amherst 1 - Hurricanes No. 3 singles player Emma Leonard-Miller earned Amherst’s point in thre sets. She prevailed 6-3 in the first before losing 6-2 in the second then won the tiebreaker 10-7.

At No. 1 singles, Amherst’s Sofia Dasilva-Askew pushed sarah Tiru to a third set by winning the first 6-2. Tiru responded with a 6-1 victory in the second and won the tiebreaker 10-4.

Girls track & field

South Hadley 76, Hampshire 65 – Emma Sanford and Abby Gelinas led the Tigers to a tight dual meet win over Hampshire with multiple individual victories.

Sanford took home first place in four events, winning the 400 hurdles (1:10.9), the javelin (90-0), the high jump (4-10) and the 100 hurdles. Gelinas won the long jump (15-6), the 100 (13.2) and the 200 (27.6).

Hampshire’s Kat Simons took home two first place finishes in the discus (64-7) and the shot put (26-8).

Frontier 83, Pioneer 62 – The Redhawks outlasted Pioneer to win their league championship on Wednesday, propelled by strong performances from Caroline Crocker and Sylvie DiBartolomeo.

Crocker won the long jump (16-4.25) and the 100 hurdles (15.8) while DiBartolomo took first in the two mile (11:59) and the mile (6:12.3).

Other first place finishes included Micky McCarthy in the shot (29-9), Lilly Novak in the javelin (88-9), Ayala Starr in the pole vault (9-6), Claire McFarland in the 400 (1:07.1), Nicole Plasse in the 400 hurdles (1:15.8) and Abigail Howard in the 800 (2:52.5).

The 4x400 relay team of McFarland, Plasse, Howard and Maddie Antes also won with a time of 4:44.4

East Longmeadow 73, Northampton 72 – On Tuesday, the Northampton fell just shy of a dual meet victory over East Longmeadow. Up 72-68 going into the final relay, East Longmeadow pulled out the win to get the five points they needed.

Three athletes earned multiple first-place finishes. Kira French won the 400 dash (1:03.4) and 400 hurdles (1:12.1), Norah Reade placed first in both the 800 (2:37.9) and mile (5:46.3) and Camilla Brewer had the top marks in the long jump (15-6.5) and triple jump (34-0).

Also picking up wins for the Blue Devils were Lily Zamer in the two mile (13:18.4), Allie Sullivan in the high jump (5-1) and Leah Greene in the javelin (92-02).

Easthampton 77, Palmer 49 - The Eagles fended off Palmer in a senior night victory on Wednesday night.

Maggie Barr placed first in the triple jump (29-3), Jade DeNucce-Simms won the shot put (24-9), Kierra Carson edged out Evelyn Ladue by two tenths of a second in the 200 dash (29.5) and Addie Barr won the 400 dash (1:10.6).

The 4x100 team of Lily Cohen, Kierra Carson, Addy Sigda and Mona Young also finished first with a time of 55.6.

Boys track & field

Hampshire 104, South Hadley 37 – Both Jaiden Kudelka and Finn Radowicz picked up personal bests and multiple individual wins in a dominant Hampshire win over South Hadley.

Kudelka won the triple jump (40-2) and the long jump (19-2) while Radowicz picked up wins in the shot put (34-7) and the discus (72-4). The Raiders swept the field events, highlighted by another personal best from Ben Plumer in the javelin (126-10).

South Hadley’s Jameson Webber won the 400 hurdles (1:02.7) and Matt Gillis placed first in the 400 (56.7).

Easthampton 90, Palmer 35 - Joe Boyer won both the 100 dash (11.0) and 200 dash (23.2) to help the Eagles to a blowout win on senior night.

Giuseppe DeNucee-Simms won the discus (105-9), Gianni Soucy won the 110 hurdles (19.4) and BB Tauscher won the 400 dash (58.0). The 4x400 relay team of Tauscher, Max Dopp, Landen Ellsworth and Soucy (4:00.02) and the 4x100 team of Tauscher, Boyer, DeNucce-Simms and Nelson Gomez (48.6) both took first as well.

Frontier 131, Palmer 13 – Erich Brown won three individual events and Alex Schreiber and Aiden Dredge placed first in two events as the Redhawks won the Intercounty League championship with a perfect 6-0 record.

Brown took first in the high jump (5-10), 110 hurdles (20.0) and the 400 hurdles (1:10.7). Schreiber won both the shot put (37-1.25) and the discus (113-0). Aiden Dredge won the javelin (145-4) and the 200 dash (23.7).

Both relay teams also took first, with the 4x100 squad of Jack Storm, Dredge, Brown and Ben Cachiguango running a 47.8 and the 4x400 team of Jack Phillips, Jaxon Spearance, Aidan Valderrama and Ian Burt winning with a 4:05.2.

Boys volleyball

Frontier 3, Belchertown 1 – The Orioles won the first set, but Frontier rattled off three consecutive wins to earn a four-set win (20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-14).

Rainer Kristensen tossed up 35 assists and Connor white had 17 kills and three blocks for Belchertown.
