Hadley, Northampton to open cooling places at senior centers

Cooling centers will be open Wednesday at the Northampton Senior Center, 67 Conz St., and the Hadley Senior Center, 46 Middle St.

Northampton’s center will open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while Hadley’s center will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Both will follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines in which all visitors will have to wear masks, sign a COVID-19 health screening form and provide contact information. Social distancing will be required. Hadley is setting a maximum of 30 people who can be accommodated.

The senior centers will be disinfected by staff throughout the day and anyone who is feeling ill should stay home and contact primary physicians.

The Hadley Senior Center will open its cooling center during heat waves, three-day weather forecasts of temperatures exceeding 90 degrees or two-day forecasts with heat index predictions at or above 105 degrees for two or more days.
