DEERFIELD — A Hadley man faces charges of drunken driving and possessing an open container of alcohol in a vehicle after allegedly crashing his truck in front of police on Saturday.

According to a report by officer Jacob Eugin, Justin T. Slysz, 24, was driving on River Road at 11:23 p.m., when Eugin witnessed his gray pickup truck crash into a guardrail. No injuries were reported and Slysz was able to get out of the vehicle on his own.

Slysz told police that he had fallen asleep at the wheel. He also stated that he had four beers around 5:30 p.m.

According to the report, Slysz’s eyes were bloodshot and he had a moderate odor of alcohol on his breath. Additionally, police found an open can of Bud Light beer in his truck, in addition to an 18-pack of the beer missing three cans, according to the report.

A breath test showed Slysz had a blood alcohol content of 0.144 percent. The legal limit is 0.08 percent. Slysz was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, having an open container of alcohol and operating to endanger.

Slysz was arraigned in Greenfield District Court on Wednesday and released on his own recognizance. He is due back in court for a pretrial conference May 6.
