HS girls basketball: Northampton sinks Central, 56-53

Emily Sledzieski hit two 3-pointers and scored 17 points, as the Northampton girls basketball team beat Central for the first time in at least a half decade, 56-53, on Monday.

Amanda Mieczkowski had 16 points and Jill McGrath scored 10 for the host Blue Devils (6-1, 1-0 Valley).

“Our guards attacked the basket really well,” Northampton coach Perry Messer said.

McGrath also blocked a 3-point attempt from half court at the buzzer that could have tied the game.

Hampshire Regional 67, South Hadley 50 — Lila Labrie had 18 points, nine steals and six rebounds, while Maggie Rubeck added 15 points and nine rebounds (seven offensive) for the Raiders (6-3, 2-0 Suburban). who had lost two of three entering the game.

Paige Marjanski led the Tigers (2-8, 0-1) with 16 points.

Holyoke 45, Chicopee Comp 42 — Yamaya Perez hit four 3s and scored 12 points to lead the Purple Knights to a road win.

Bianca Ortiz had 11 points, and Natalie Vazquez scored eight for Holyoke (5-5).

Athol 49, Easthampton 48 — The Eagles (4-4) fell by a last-second shot for the second time in three games when Kendall Deleo hit her only shot – a 3-pointer – from the top of the key with two seconds left. A half-court attempt by the Eagles fell short.

On Thursday, Turners Falls hit two free throws with one second left to beat Easthampton.

Emma Downer finished with 17 points and Lauren Morse added 13 for the Eagles Monday.

Sabis 45, Granby 36 — Nora Young had 16 points and 12 rebounds in a road loss.

Kayla McCreary also grabbed 12 rebounds and scored four points. Julia Frappier added seven points for the Rams (4-4).

Agawam 38, Belchertown 33 — Avery Klingensmith had a career-high 13 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a road loss.

Gina Camerota hit three 3s and led the Orioles (2-6, 0-1 Suburban) with a career-high 14 points.

Belchertown rallied with a 14-6 advantage in the fourth quarter but couldn’t close the gap.

Lenox 50, Hopkins Academy 40 (OT) — Sara Beauchamp hit three 3s and scored 15 points in a road loss.

The Millionaires sent the game to overtime with a free throw in the last five seconds.

Kasey Earle added nine points for the Golden Hawks (6-3).

Putnam 45, Smith Academy 39 — Emma Kelly led the Falcons with 22 points in a home loss. Karlie Guimond added 11 for Smith Academy (4-5).
