Friday’s colleges: UMass field hockey blanks Sacred Heart 1-0

The UMass field hockey team beat Sacred Heart, 1-0, Friday at Gladchuk Field.

Sarah Hawkshaw scored with an assist from Rachael Burchell.

The defense of Melanie Kreusch, Georgie McTear and Shauna Rankin-Byrne combined with goalkeeper Emily Hazard (one save) for the shutout.

Women’s soccer

UMass 1, Delaware 1 — Jenny Hipp scored from Paige Kozlowski but the Minutewomen (1-3-1) earned the draw at Rudd Field.

Cassidy Babin had five saves for UMass.

Women’s volleyball

Smith 3, Johnson State 0 — Caleigh Johnson had four kills and six aces, while Xela Miller added three kills, five aces and five digs as the Pioneers (2-2) won their opener in the Smith Invitational.
