NORTHAMPTON — A Florence woman is one of two area residents who recently won a $1 million instant ticket prize through the Massachusetts State Lottery.

Paula Pelkey of Florence visited the Lottery’s Braintree headquarters on Monday to claim her prize won in the “$2,000,000 50X Cashword” $10 instant game. Her winning ticket was purchased at Pride Station & Store at 60 Union St. in Easthampton. She told lottery officials she plans to use a portion of her winnings to renovate her home.

On Wednesday, Kevin Lunardini of Chicopee also went to Braintree to collect a $1 million prize that he won in the Lottery’s new “$4,000,000 Bonus Cash” $10 instant ticket game that went on sale Feb. 28. His winning ticket was purchased at Mike’s Variety at 335 Dale St. in Chicopee.

Both Pelkey and Lunardini chose the cash option on their prizes and received one-time payments of $650,000 after tax withholdings. The respective agents who sold the winning tickets will each receive $10,000 bonuses for their sales of the tickets.
