Police probe two explosions in Belchertown

BELCHERTOWN — Police are investigating two explosions in the area of Federal Street and Daniel Shays Highway reported at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Monday.

Using citizen reports, police found a debris field where they believe the explosions occurred. The explosions could reportedly be heard throughout town, police said.

According to a press release from the Belchertown Police Department, people involved in the explosions have been identified and may face possible charges.

According to Chief of Police Christopher G. Pronovost, the incident is under investigation and more information will be released in the “next day or two.”

The release states that the department was also assisted by the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, State Fire Marshal’s Office, Belchertown Fire Department, and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
