Praises Dunphy School production of ‘Lion King’

The Valley witnessed a great theatrical event this month as the students at Williamsburg’s Anne T. Dunphy School presented “The Lion King” musical.

The kids spoke their lines with aplomb, danced with great spirit and sang happily in English, Swahili, Zulu and Xhosa. In short, they were wonderful — as two sold-out audiences can attest.

The saying that it takes a village to raise a child was never truer as parents and friends worked tirelessly behind the scenes on the production. The sets were wonderful, including a jaw-dropping acacia tree.

The lighting and costuming were astonishing with stampeding wildebeests, flying buzzards and royal lions, and a watery reflection of sky and water holes. And the music with guitar and percussion could not have been more apt or moving.

Congratulations to all. I’m glad I live in this town.
