HADLEY — A three-car crash on the Calvin Coolidge Bridge on Tuesday afternoon sent one woman to the hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

Hadley Police received a call shortly after noon for a three-car crash with airbags deployed on the bridge, according to Police Lt. Mitchell Kuc. When officers arrived at the scene, they noticed that the bridge deck was slippery from spilled oil, Kuc said.

Kuc said the crash involved a 2006 Toyota Tundra driven by a 68-year-old Hadley man, a 2020 Toyota Camry driven by a 38-year-old Pittsfield man and a 2015 Toyota Corolla driven by a 56-year-old Easthampton woman. All three vehicles were traveling west on Route 9 and were towed from the scene. The Easthampton woman was transported to the hospital with “apparent minor injuries,” Kuc said.

The oil on the road was the cause of the crash, Kuc said, and was not a result of the crash. Police also called the state Department of Transportation to sand over the oil to prevent vehicles from sliding.

The bridge was reduced to one lane of travel both ways until police left the scene around 1:15 p.m, Kuc said.
