Belchertown Post 239 goes 1-1 over weekend in Department Senior Tournament

After winning its district tournament last week, the Belchertown Post 239 Senior Legion squad traveled out to Mahon Field in Natick over the weekend to compete in the Department Senior Tournament. 

Belchertown opened the double-elimination tournament up on Saturday against Sandwich Post 138. Belchertown trailed 2-1 going into the fifth when Sandwich exploded for 12 runs to pull away with a 14-1 victory in five-innings. 

Fighting to stay alive on Sunday, Belchertown took on Fall River Post 464 where it earned a 5-3 victory to remain in the tournament. Belchertown will face an opponent to be determined on Monday at 4 p.m. 

Against Sandwich Ryan Decoteau and Marshall Ingram each cracked a double while Cooper Beckwith, Andrew Fijal and Ryan Schneider hit safely. Brady Perkins, Tyler McDonald and Eli Sayball-Wimmer all pitched in the loss. 

Cody West got the win against Fall River, scattering just four hits in six innings work. Schneider picke dup the save. 

Ingram knocked in a pair of runs in the first inning before scoring three times in the fourth on an error and a two-run double from McDonald. Decoteau, Perkins and West added hits in the win.
