The Hampshire Regional YMCA Dolphins Swim Team concluded their winter season schedule recently. This season marks the second under head coach Jay Fritz, who was assisted this year by Ania Axas and Hannah Creamer.

Make it two wins in a row to start the season for the Amherst Regional boys tennis team, as the Hurricanes used two lengthy three-set doubles victories to get past Belchertown, 4-1, at the Amherst Middle School tennis courts on Tuesday afternoon.

GRANBY — The Hopkins bats may have gotten off to a slow start on Thursday afternoon, but the Golden Hawks quickly shook off any early-season rust and came alive with seven runs over the final two innings as they went on the road to defeat Granby, 10-0, in the two programs’ season opener.

As the 2025 baseball season opens, it will again reveal what is likely one of the strongest pipelines of any sport management program in the country. That pipeline, into what is one of the hardest segment of the sport industry to break into, leads to Major League Baseball’s 30 teams, and specifically into their “front office.” The McCormack Department of Sport Management will count 48 alums currently employed in the front office of MLB teams. You read that right: 48 alums.

LOWELL — It felt like history had repeated itself at the Tsongas Center on Sunday afternoon. A year ago, the South Hadley girls basketball team got off to a hot start before ultimately falling to No. 1 Cathedral in the MIAA Division 4 state championship game on the third Sunday of March.

A 22-point game from Ally Landau helped the Smith College basketball team advance past Gustavus Adolphus, 61-50, in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division 3 women’s tournament on Saturday.

WORCESTER — After making the MIAA Division 4 state final and graduating only one senior from last season’s team, the town of South Hadley, all of western Mass. and competition across the state expected the South Hadley girls basketball team to end up in that same exact spot come March 2025.

Two goals from Cole O’Hara led the No. 16 UMass hockey team to a 5-1 win against No. 5 Maine on Friday at the Mullins Center.

The defending state champions very much looked the part Friday night.

It came down to the wire at the Reilly Center on Wednesday. 

After making a run to the state semifinals a year ago, the Northampton girls basketball team is once again in the mix for a Final Four berth.

March Madness starts in two weeks and we’ll be watching a lot of basketball. I’ve been watching basketball for over 75 years, starting with my All American father when I was just a boy. Later, I followed my brother who was the point guard on a great high school team. With all this legacy, I thought I would be good at basketball as well, but that was not to be. I could run, jump, and shoot, but when I got on the court with nine other guys, I felt like I was in the middle of Hwy 91 without a car. Not so for many of the players we will see in the coming weeks. I continue to be amazed by the skill of today’s players, their ball handling and speed is truly amazing.
