NORTHAMPTON – It was an emphatic exclamation mark on the PVIAC season for the Northampton girls’ indoor track team on Saturday night at Smith College. 

Maeve O’Neil had a pair of first-place finishes on the girls’ side, taking first in the 600 meters (1 minute, 46.24 seconds) and the 1,000 (3:22.07), while Theodore King-Pollet won the boys’ 2-mile (10:03.99). 

Those finishes, along with numerous other top 10 finishers, helped the Blue Devil girls score 92 points and run away with a team title at the PVIAC Championships. That total was 34 points higher than East Longmeadow in second place.

The Northampton boys placed second on the day with 56 points, behind only champion East Longmeadow (73 points).

The local teams now turn their attention to the MIAA championship meets, which begin Wednesday when Division 5 athletes take to the track at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center in Boston. Division 3 runners will compete on Saturday.

Those weren’t the only winners from the area on Saturday, however. Amherst’s Nicholas Lisle came in first in the boys’ 600 (1:26.02) while teammate Logan Alfandari won the shot put (53-0.25).

Holyoke’s Yasani Thompson swept the sprints on the girls’ side, taking first in both the 55 (7.33) and 300 (42.51). 

For team performances on the boys’ side, Amherst took fourth, Hampshire came in 10th, Holyoke placed 12th and Frontier took 15th.

On the girls side’ Holyoke tied for fifth, South Hadley placed eighth, Hampshire took 11th, Frontier came in 13th and Amherst finished in 17th.

Here’s a breakdown of the top finishers from each team: 

Northampton

Malia Silver wasn’t far behind O’Neil in the 1,000, as she took third (3:23.05). Silver added a second place finish in the 1 mile (5:34.51). 

Also on the girls’ side, Allie Sullivan took third in the high jump (4-10), third in the long jump (15-10) and seventh in the 55 (7.62), Tess Geis-Benton placed fifth in the 1,000 (3:25.45), sixth in the mile (5:39.38) and seventh in the 2 mile (13:22.95), Charlotte Shimpach came in eighth in the mile (5:48.20) and third in the 2 mile (12:43.68), Eleanor Lewis took second in the high jump (5-0) and ninth in the long jump (15-4.25), Camilla Brewer placed sixth in the long jump (15-5.75) and Allyson Busone took ninth in the shot put (28-6). 

The Northampton girls took second in the 4x800 relay (11:04.67), fifth in the 4x400 (4:25.82) and 10th in the 4x200 (1:57.27). 

On the boys’ side, Ryland Breen walked away with a second place finish in both the 55 (6.59) and the 300 (36.32). Juan Jose Adams Causton took fifth in the 300 (37.68) and ninth in the long jump (19-4), Liam Ewers placed sixth in the 600 (1:27.92), Davis Wheat earned fifth in the 1,000 (2:40.93), Alex Sirois came in eighth in the 1,000 (2:48.67), King-Pollet added a third place finish in the mile (4:37.27) and Ben Killip-Leonard came in ninth in the 2 mile (10:59.21). 

The Blue Devil boys won the 4x400 relay (3:40.01) and placed seventh in the 4x800 (9:25.48). 

Amherst

Miguel Pinero-Jacome was just behind Lisle in the boys’ 600, taking second overall (1:26.17). Owen Platt came in eighth (1:28.50). 

Also on the boys’ side, Yoh Morita placed 14th in the 1,000 (2:59.79), Moniha Krouch took fourth in the shot put (40-4.74) while Nathanael Oliver took 10th in the shot put (36-10.75). 

The Amherst boys won the 4x800 relay (8:42.16) while finishing in seventh in both the 4x200 (1:39.18) and the 4x400 (3:49.22). 

On the girls’ side, Ella Austin came in 13th in the 300 (45.13). Brooke Nadeau placed 15th in the mile (6:09.73) while Claire Kennedy came in ninth in the 2 mile (13:37.82). 

The Hurricane girls placed second in the 4x200 (1:52.33). 

Frontier

Leah Gump was the top placer for the Redhawk girls, taking fourth in the 2 mile (12 minutes, 47.14 seconds). Liv Christensen placed 12th (14:18.06). 

Hannah Davis came in sixth in the 55 hurdles (9.45 seconds), Nicole Plasse earned ninth in the 600 (1:50.76), Addison Morrey took sixth in the 1,000 (3:32.42) while Phoebe Radner took 12th (3:40.42). In the mile Morrey placed ninth (5:53.61) while Kali Beam took 16th (6:16.70) and in the shot put, Lilly Novak placed 10th (28-3.25), Micky McCarthy came in 12th (27-2.5) and Abbigayle Grover placed 13th (26-9). 

The Frontier girls placed sixth in the 4x400 (4.29.89), 11th in the 4x200 (1:58.10), eighth in the 4x800 (11:30.83), 

On the boys’ side, Aidan Valderrama walked away with a fifth place finish in the high jump (5-8) and also came in 14th in the 600 (1:37.13). Amory Maxey placed 12th in the 1,000 (2:51.39), Charles Dennis took 10th in the mile (4:52.93). 

The Frontier boys took third in the 4x800 (8:59.62), 15th in the 4x200 (1:43.41) and 14th in the 4x400 (4:03.51). 

Hampshire

Jaiden Kudelka earned fourth in the boys 55 meters (6.62) while Nick Brisson placed fourth in the 1,000 (2:40.91). 

Owen Cubi came in 12th in the 600 (1:33.71), Nicholas Elias-Gillette placed 15th in the mile (4:57.64) while in the 2 mile, Oscar Schiff came in sixth (10:39.27) and Gavin Dafonte took seventh (10:56.22). 

The Raider boys took 14th in the 4x200 (1:42.77) and fourth in the 4x800 (9:02.67). 

On the girls’ side, Gabriella Dybacki came in fifth in the 600 (1:50.16), Kathleen Barry placed seventh in the mile (5:44.76), Estella Steffenhagen took 13th in the 2 mile (14:23.16) while Ashley Cortis took sixth in the shot put (30-7.75). 

The Raider girls placed fifth in the 4x200 (1:55.74) and fourth in the 4x800 (11:14.72). 

Holyoke

Jaden Diaz finished in second in the boys shot put (43-6). Also for the Purple Knight boys, Jhendry Payamps Cruz took 12th in the 300 (38.81), Ryan Kennedy placed 11th in the 600 (1:33.58) and Elijah Quinn came in 18th in the mile (5:01.61). 

The Holyoke boys took sixth in the 4x200 (1:38.99), eighth in the 4x400 (3:49.83) and 11th in the 4x800 (9:57.51). 

For the girls’ team, Siobhan Armstrong placed eighth in the 600 (1:50.69), Jaylene Moquin came in 11th in the 600 (1:51.18) while Kayshaly Garcia placed eighth in the long jump (15-5.5). 

The Holyoke girls won the 4x200 (1:51.8). 

South Hadley

Izzy Scott recorded a fourth place finish in the 1,000 to pace the girls’ team (3:23.31) while Gwen Marion placed eighth (3:33.95) and Quinlin Cook took ninth (3:34.25). 

Abigail Gelenas took eighth in both the 55 (7.71) and 300 (44.35), Mikayla Weaver took sixth in the 600 (1:50.18) and seventh in the high jump (4-8), Marion took 10th in the high jump (4-6) and Addison Hill placed 11th in the mile (5:56.41). 

The South Hadley girls came in third in the 4x800 (11:09.39), seventh in the 4x400 (4:37.54) and fourth in the 4x200 (1:54.92). 

On the boys’ side, Micah Litovich took 18th in the 300 (39.97) and Nathan Hutchinson placed 11th in the mile (4:53.62) and 16th in the 1,000 (3:01.17). 

The Tiger boys placed 10th in the 4x400 ( 3:51.09) and 13th in the 4x200 (1:42.06).
