200 Years Ago

■Dr. David Hunt begs leave to acquaint his friends and the public that he has made new arrangements in his professional business and has taken in connection with him Dr. B. Barrett. Drs. Hunt & Barrett have a good selection of surgical instruments, and the most approved apparatus for fractured and dislocated bones.

■Wanted, as an apprentice in the store of E. Hunt, an intelligent, industrious lad, from 15 to 16 years old. One that will come well recommended, as a good writer, as well versed in arithmetic, and of steady habits, may secure a permanent situation.

100 Years Ago

■About 43 of his friends gave a surprise party last night to Odilion G. Diemand at his home on Earle Street in honor of Mr. Diemand’s 21st birthday. He was presented with gold cuff links and a silk shirt. There was a musical program, followed by games, and refreshments were served.

■Joseph Covello of Maple Street, who was injured in an explosion at Dickinson Hospital on Saturday morning, is steadily improving and his recovery is looked for. The condition of Luther H. Bosworth, who was struck by an automobile on North Main Street on Sunday evening, is about the same and it is hoped by the hospital officials that he will recover.

50 Years Ago

■Hollywood will come to Northampton in June when a film company spends five weeks in this area filming a movie about a Los Angeles professor who dreams of returning to a small New England town after his death. “The Reincarnation of Peter Proud,” will feature scenes from the Connecticut Valley, including Springfield, Highland Lake in Goshen, the Lord Jeffery Inn in Amherst, and Smith College.

■Paul M. Craig, unsuccessful Republican candidate for mayor last fall, has told the Gazette he is “seriously” thinking of running for a House seat from the First Hampshire District. Should he decide to run, Craig would be the first Republican candidate to enter the race.
