WORTHINGTON — Annual town election and Town Meeting are on Saturday, May 4.

Polls are open at Town Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Town Meeting begins at 9:30. There are options for early voting and vote by mail.

The ballot includes one contested election, for Select Board, with incumbent Charley Rose being challenged by Gabriel Unger.

Rose, a retired broadcaster and 20-year resident of town, began his involvement in municipal government by working to bring high-speed broadband to the hilltowns.

He has served on the Select Board for nine years, working on cooperative emergency services with neighboring towns, implementing the town’s reverse 911/emergency notification system, and enabling boards to meet remotely during and since the pandemic.

He serves as town and board liaison to entities such as the Hilltown Community Ambulance Association and Fire and Rescue, and helped organize meals for those in need during the pandemic and set up a food pantry in town.

He said he hopes to continue to improve the access to municipal meetings and offer live streams and cable access in the future.

In a statement posted on the town website, Unger said he believes residents deserve to have a choice when electing a representative to the town’s top governing body.

He pledges to be an accessible and thoughtful board member willing to listen to constituents and act on their grievances.

Unger, who has worked many years in creative artist management, said he’s eager to collaborate on initiatives that advance community well-being, such as a mobile pharmacy. He said he intends to seek out revenue sources that don’t encumber the taxpayer, and to look for ways to make the Select Board’s actions more transparent through better communication.

Incumbents are seeking reelection to other positions, with the exception of the one- and two-year seats on the Finance Committee, for which newcomers Randy Zucco and Michael Krezmien have filed.

Vote by mail is available through the town website or from the town clerk.

Early in-person voting is available at Town Hall until May 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays (except Wednesday).
